Olympic Industries Improves Product Quality with Nordson

In this blog, I have a great story about a biscuit manufacturer and how we helped them to not only improve product quality but optimized their process and realize significant production savings.

Bangladesh's Largest Biscuit Manufacturer

Founded in 1979, Olympic Industries Limited has diversified its product offering greatly over the years. Starting off as a battery manufacturer, the company quickly identified that it was capable of making even more products that fit into consumer’s daily lives. Today, Olympic Industries is known as the largest manufacturer and distributor of biscuits and confectionary products in Bangladesh. The company is recognized for its focus on quality and understanding the consumer’s high expectations, all while staying true to the values that made it and its products the brand that it is today.

The Process Challenge and Nordson's Solution

Olympic Industries was previously taking samples from their production lines and sending them to their in-house laboratory for traditional off-line testing. This process was time consuming and delayed taking corrective actions in the process - meaning that productivity suffered. After an in-depth consultation with Nordson, Olympic Industries decided to install the InfraLab at-line analyzer. The new gauge sits right next to their production line and allows operators to take a sample of the product, analyze it on the InfraLab and in under five seconds determine the level of moisture, fat/oil and degree of brownness in their biscuits. This fast testing method allows for more samples to be taken over a shorter period of time and at a lower cost than traditional lab testing.

The InfraLab is extremely intuitive - requiring no special operator skills - and has a compact footprint, so it doesn’t take up room in tight production spaces. Capable of storing multiple test results with its built-in memory function, operators can check the history of product quality over time to ensure process consistency. InfraLab is also environmentally robust and is not affected by product and ambient changes such as temperature, relative humidity and factory lighting.

Since it’s installation, the InfraLab has enabled Olympic Industries to have greater insight into the process through its simultaneous measurements of multiple product components. By eliminating the traditional laboratory testing method, Olympic Industries have been able to reduce scrap, increase their productivity and, most importantly, enhance their product quality.
