The Beta Transmission Gauges are designed for online thickness or weight measurement of continuous web products. Each Beta sensor is specifically matched to a particular web product application, ensuring optimal measurement performance and results. Nordson’s Beta sensors have minimized activity sources, utilizing smaller, lighter source capsules and less shielding. This design leads to a compact head with reduced radioactivity, which is preferred by nuclear regulatory authorities. A key feature of the Nordson Beta gauges is their efficient detection system, which provides high measurement sensitivity and superior nuclear statistics. For example, the ion chamber is constructed with a specially welded thin window filled with a denser inert gas at higher pressure and lower ionization potential, resulting in a highly efficient detector. Additionally, the fast 5-millisecond signal response enables optimized streak resolution performance (1.00 mm or less than 1/32 inch), high-speed data processing, and maximum scanning speeds. For enhanced profile measurement accuracy, a collimator over the detector window creates broad sensor alignment plateaus that minimize the impact of any displacement in the 'z' direction between the source and receiver.
