Technology Upgrades to BKG® Pelletizing Systems

Easy and safe machine handling is one of the most valued requirements for processors. As a result, we implemented new features and improvements into our BKG® pelletizing systems that focus on exactly that. Especially in compounding applications, with frequent product changes and higher maintenance efforts, the equipment must make an operator's life as easy as possible.
Pelletizer Locking System
Our new locking system for most of our BKG® pelletizers answers that need and realizes a more effortless and safer coupling of the pelletizer to the water box. In the past, the pelletizer was coupled to the water box with a special clamping flange, and security was ensured with a key system.
Our engineers knew there must be a better way and found one. Connecting the pelletizer to the water box is now done in one step and easy as closing a fridge. Upon closing, the safety lock is activated and releases the signal for the start. After start-up, the safety lock remains active until the pelletizer motor is stopped completely. "This is more comfortable for the operator; start-up and shutdown are also done much quicker," says Reinhild Bolwerk, Global Product Category Manager.
Pellet Dryer Bearing
Another new feature we implemented into our BKG® pelletizing systems is a new bearing design in some of their dryer models. "The lower bearing of a dryer is susceptible to seizing since polymer material tends to build up in that area. As a result, particularly when processing wear-intensive materials, the mechanical seals are highly stressed and must be replaced more frequently. And this is quite a bit of work," explains Udo Hoesker, Application Engineer. "We wanted a solution that makes repairs easier and safer."
It isn’t easy to pull the bearing from the shaft, especially when it is seized. But it is also no option to remove the shaft itself. And so, we redesigned the lower bearing area. The shaft is now divided into two parts. Each part is fixed with an easy-to-release coupling and can be taken out separately. It is then easy to take out the smaller part with the bearing and work on it.
