In many cases, the diameters of jetted fluid droplets after they land on a target location may be measured to ensure that fluids do not overflow onto other components. For example, the diameter of a surface mount adhesive droplet on a printed circuit board is measured because the fluid must stay between the electrical pads and not touch the pads themselves.

Applications Corner 2016-02 Newsletter Story - Measure In-Flight Drop Diameter
With today's increased demand for miniaturization and higher density, measuring the droplet after hitting the target may not be enough to prevent errors. For example, as gaps between components become narrower, the fluid droplet is more likely to hit the tops or sides of components before reaching the targeted location. As a result, the need for companies to measure fluid droplet diameter "in-flight" has become more important. Nordson ASYMTEK has the capability to measure droplets in our development lab. It helps us ensure development of best-in-industry products and recommending the correct hardware for your applications and processes.
