Hot melt adhesive equipment helps manage rising costs

Increasing adhesive and petroleum-based resin costs are driving change in the packaging industry. Placing more than the required amount of adhesive on a package – to assure a strong seal – raises costs unnecessarily. Adhesive suppliers are also introducing products with lower melt temperatures and new material chemistries to reduce energy costs and improve recycling. Newer melters are incredibly efficient at processing these new materials than older, thermostat-controlled systems.

Nordson’s Adhesive Tracking System (ATS) allows for per product flow monitoring and total adhesive consumption data. ATS / ATS+ uses a flow meter to track adhesive. As the gears on the flow meter rotate, sensors detect the gear movement. The sensors relay signals back to the controller where the add-on weight is calculated. This allows users to ensure each package has the right amount of adhesive – not too much, not too little. Easily adjust adhesive usage for continued cost savings. Even skilled machine operators find it difficult to detect a 25% change by visual inspection, let alone a 15% or 10% change. ATS allows users to track the total number of products and monitor & control adhesive in real-time.
