Shape Finder Fiducial Method Enables the Use of Uncommon Fiducial Types
Having trouble reading fiducials on your parts? Perhaps your fiducials do not have enough contrast or they have color variations due to manufacturing methods? Or, parts are loaded on fixtures with no specific orientation? If these issues sound familiar, the Shape Finder feature in Fluidmove® software can help.
Shape Finder is designed to find a distinctive shape on a part and is more tolerant of rotation and scale changes in the located item than Model Finder. Shapes can be different sizes, rotations, or contrasts across multiple boards and still be found. Shape Finder looks for a particular set of edges, which are abrupt changes in brightness, and unlike Model Finder, does not need to compare against a saved image.
Shape Finder has the ability to recognize fiducial rotation and apply the dispense pattern accordingly. The acceptable fiducial rotation is user specified and can be set up to +/- 180°. It is not necessary for parts to be loaded on the carrier in the same orientation as it was taught for the fiducial to be recognized, so long as the fiducial fits inside the search window when rotated.
