Top 10 Did-You-Know Facts About EFD Dispensing Syringes
Find Out What Makes our Optimum Dispensing System Unique
Nordson EFD was established in 1963, specializing in the process of adhering material to the back of earrings. Over the years, we’ve developed some of the highest quality dispensing systems, expanding our technology for use in a wide range of industries.
Although we’ve been around for more than 50 years, there are a few things you may not know about us. In this blog post, we’ll be discussing the top 10 facts about our Optimum® fluid dispensing components. What makes them special? How were they engineered to yield the best results for manufacturers?
Top 10 Did-You-Know (DYK) Facts
- We don’t use silicone mold-release agents in our molding process.
- Our Optimum syringe barrels feature ZeroDraft™ walls with consistent internal diameters that maintain an airtight seal.
- Nordson EFD’s Optimum syringe barrels are designed for the best results.
- Our Optimum syringe barrels are made of a special blend of polypropylene for exceptional clarity and chemical compatibility.
- We offer 7 different types of syringe barrel adapters, each made for a specific purpose.
- Nordson EFD has 2 types of end caps: vented and non-vented.
- We have 5 different tip caps engineered to prevent air from being introduced into the syringe during installation.
- Our tip installation tool is helpful if you’re filling a high volume of barrels.
- Nordson EFD offers a tip shield for super sensitive, light-curing adhesives.
- All Optimum components go through rigorous quality testing to ensure they meet consistent tolerances and are free from molding defects.
Mold-release agents can contaminate your fluid. For this reason, we are a certified silicone-free facility.
The consistent internal diameters of our barrels match perfectly with our patented SmoothFlow™ piston design. The double-wiping edges of our pistons drag along the inside of the barrel so no fluid is left behind. This results in better control and less waste.
These dispensing syringes are engineered with a tapered internal luer, which prevents fluid shear and results in better consistency when filling and dispensing.
Some adapters feature a seal that sits deep within the barrel for higher pressure applications. Others are designed to withstand high heat. Some work better with high-viscosity fluids. Lastly, our Quicksilver™ adapter allows faster cycle speeds for automated dispensing and improved dispensing performance.
Vented end caps are useful when your material is being shipped by air. They allow air pressure to equalize inside a syringe and prevent new air from entering your fluid. This prevents the piston from separating from the fluid during shipment. They’re available in 3cc, 5cc, 10cc, 30cc, 55cc, and 70cc sizes.
Our standard tip caps come in blue, green, and black. Each is designed to be secure, easy to install/remove, and stand on end. Our unique orange tip caps are useful when centrifuging your fluid. Our orange tip cap is also offered with a stem perfect for hot melts. The stem minimizes the amount of moisture and oxygen that can enter the barrel.
Simply attach it to a torque wrench, insert the tip cap onto the end of the barrel, and apply 28in ounces of force to secure the tip cap to the barrel.
It fits over our general purpose tips and completely blocks light to prevent curing.
