What are beverage cans?

Beverage cans are aluminium, steel, plastic, glass bottles or metal containers designed to store and transport drinks. These aluminium, plastic or metal cans are made of thin aluminium or steel sheets, which have been formed into cylindrical shapes and sealed using a plastic lining. The exterior of beverage cans is typically printed with attractive designs and are filled with colorful graphics, making them ideal for marketing and promotional purposes.

The small cup resulting from can manufacturing is designed to hold carbonated liquid without bursting the cup walls. This small cup needs to be thick enough to handle the immense pressure from the carbonated liquid contained within it, while also being lightweight and easy to produce.

Beverage cans come in various sizes and are used to package a variety of beverages such as sodas, energy drinks, juices, beers, wines, teas, coffees etc. Aluminum cans offer convenience due to their light weight and portability; also they can be easily recycled or reused. This makes them an increasingly popular choice among beverage producers, for metal or plastic bottles all over the world.

Can making process

Cans are a popular and ubiquitous packaging option. They come in many styles, sizes, and custom designs, making them a great choice of packaging for beer brewers. While cans may appear to be simple containers, they are actually the result of an intricate manufacturing process that begins with raw aluminum sheets and results in refrigeration-ready cans. Raw aluminum sheets are stamped into individual discs using a powerful press. The discs are then cut into two pieces: the top which forms the lid of the can, and the bottom which is used to form the base of the aluminum cans.

Once separated, these pieces need to be formed into their final shapes through deep the drawing and ironing process and processes. To ensure quality control throughout this stage of production, the aluminum cans are routinely inspected for defects and imperfections. Once the can is formed, it then needs to be printed with brand labels, artwork, nutritional information, and other details. After printing is complete, the beer cans must then be sealed by applying either a lid or a thin sheet of plastic film over the opening of each can.

Nordson offers custom can manufacturing equipment that enables manufacturers to create custom cans for their products. Our equipment and specialized expertise allows manufacturers institute make for greater customizability of beverage cans so that they better suit the needs of the product, while simultaneously reducing costs and increasing efficiency.

The Ink-Dot Identification System

Nordson Ink-Dot Identification System is an industry-leading solution for quickly and accurately identifying cans entering a spray machine. By applying a small dot of ink to the bottom of each can, industry professionals can easily identify which cans were sprayed with which spray machine should any problem arise.

Using a different colored ink for each spray machine allows industry workers to quickly determine the source of the issue and take corrective action without wasting valuable time or materials. This system helps reduce rejects, downtime, labor costs, and material costs in production lines, making it invaluable for industry professionals. With its simple yet effective design and proven track record of success, the Ink-Dot Identification System is revolutionizing industry standards.

Tips and tricks for can manufacturing

Can manufacturing is an intricate process that requires careful planning and execution. To ensure success, it's essential to consider various factors such as cost-effectiveness, safety, quality control, and environmental impact. Here are some tips and tricks for successful can manufacturing:

  • Choose the right materials: One of the main considerations when selecting materials for can manufacturing is their resistance to corrosion and other environmental effects. High-quality aluminum alloy or stainless steel are good choices for cans that need to withstand long periods of time in harsh conditions. Additionally, make sure your material selection meets all applicable industry standards and regulations.

  • Utilize efficient processes: Automation is a great way to increase efficiency in your can manufacturing process by streamlining the production line. Automation can also help reduce labor costs and increase throughput. Additionally, look for ways to reduce waste and optimize energy use in your facility.

  • Implement quality control measures: Quality control is an important part of any manufacturing process, especially when it comes to cans. Establishing a comprehensive quality management system (QMS) will help ensure that all products meet industry standards and regulations. Make sure you have the proper testing equipment on hand to conduct regular inspections throughout the manufacturing process.

  • Use protective coatings: Applying a durable coating to your finished cans not only enhances their appearance but also helps protect them from corrosion, rusting, and other environmental factors. Choose a coating that meets both industry standards and your own performance expectations.

  • Monitor the environment: Make sure to monitor environmental conditions in and around your facility to ensure that they meet applicable regulations. Also, pay close attention to airborne particles and other contaminants that could affect your product’s quality. Whenever possible, use best-in-class air filtration systems or other methods of keeping the air clean throughout production.

By following these tips and tricks for can manufacturing, you can ensure that your products are of the highest quality while also helping reduce costs and minimize environmental impact. With careful planning and execution, you can create a successful canning process that will serve you well for years to come.
