What is a dispense tip shield?

A dispensing tip shield is an opaque polymer cover that fits over the hub of a dispensing tip (see photo). It covers the hub of the dispensing tip, leaving only the metal needle exposed. It is designed to remain in place during dispensing operations.

FAQ - Tip shield

Nordson EFD’s dispense tip shields fit over the hub of a dispensing tip to protect visible-light- and UV-sensitive fluids (lower left). They are designed for reuse. Note the use of an opaque syringe barrel reservoir to further protect the material throughout dispensing.

Why would I need a dispensing tip shield?

Some fluids, such as certain adhesives, are light or UV sensitive. As a result, any wavelengths penetrating the translucent hub of a dispensing tip could cause the fluid to cure prematurely.

At best, this can result in wasted material. At worst, it can clog or entirely block the dispensing tip, stopping the process until the tip can be replaced.

By blocking transmission of visible and UV light, dispensing tip shields can prevent these negative outcomes. To fully protect the material throughout the dispensing process, always use an opaque syringe barrel reservoir, as shown in the photo.
