Gap filling applications for appliance

Nordson's patented hot-melt adhesive foaming system provides premium gap filling performance for general appliance assembly.

Overview

Nordson's Solution

The FoamMelt® FIT25 melter supplying an automatic or manual applicator dispensing foamed PSA adhesive for sealing appliance inner linings and doors (cabinet sealing). Foamed PSA adhesive is injected into gaps on the cabinet frame (i.e. corners) by moving the applicator manually or with a robot. This solution effectively prevents overflow and leakage of two-component polyurethane (PU) foam during appliance final assembly.

In addition to the significantly improved gap filling and sealing properties of the adhesive, foamed PSA enables more savings through reduced adhesive consumption. Using the patented two stage pump with a recirculating hose loop, the FoamMelt® foaming process can reduce the hot-melt adhesive consumption as much as 30%-70% (50% typical).

Nordson solutions offer lower production and labor costs by eliminating inconsistent performance and labor-intensive tape or solid PSA adhesive applications.

Foamed Adhesive

The Nordson FoamMelt® process dramatically improves the performance of most hot melt adhesives by mixing them with inert gas, creating a homogeneous solution under pressure. As the material is dispensed, the gas expands to create a closed-cell foam. The foamed material is applied like conventional dispensing systems but provides a lot more benefits.

Benefits of foamed adhesive include increased open, faster set time, volumetric increase, improved wetting, lower heat density, reduced sagging, and reduced adhesive consumption.
