Nordson Corporation Environmental Policy
Introduction
Nordson Corporation is a responsible, global company that is committed to conducting business in a manner consistent with the objectives of sustainable development, balancing economic success with environmental stewardship and social progress. Sustainable development is a globally accepted approach to sustaining economic growth without harming our planet or exhausting its resources while improving the quality of life for current and future generations. It is embodied in well-respected global frameworks from which we draw inspiration, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.Our Policy
Nordson's Environmental Policy is derived from our Corporate Philosophy and Values and reflects our commitment to creating long-term benefits for all our stakeholders, including customers, employees, shareholders and communities. Throughout the organization, we conduct business in a way that demonstrates our commitment to continuous improvement and the advancement of sustainable development. We recognize that climate change, water scarcity and other environmental issues present real and growing challenges for our planet, and that Nordson has an important role to play in monitoring and reducing our emissions and overall environmental impact. This policy is supported by relevant aspects of our Environmental, Health and Safety Policy, Conflict Minerals Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct.Our Commitments
Nordson is committed to the following environmental and sustainability principles:
- Meet or exceed all applicable environmental laws and regulations;
- Monitor our natural resource consumption, energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and waste;
- Use baseline data to set targets and drive efficiencies;
- Continuously improve our performance in the conservation of natural resources, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, reduction of waste and enhancement of recycling and reuse;
- Invest in technologies that enhance our efficiency and environmental performance, with a particular focus on those that also provide operational, safety, financial or other benefits
- Maintain transparency by regularly reporting on environmental issues and our progress.
Accountability
Responsibility for our environmental management strategy is shared among centralized and local resources. Consistent with Nordson’s Ascend strategy, our environmental management philosophy is to foster an owner mindset that empowers division and site leaders to be proactive in managing their business and operations, within a framework of centralized governance and oversight to identify key trends, risks and opportunities. Division and site leaders are responsible for localized decision-making, while a centralized team is responsible for company-wide oversight to identify and support the mitigation of any key risks or negative trends. Positive trends, key opportunities and best practices are identified and shared within the company, enhancing employee awareness. A disciplined, data-driven approach seeks to prioritize and allocate our resources to the most impactful opportunities and risk mitigation needs.
Climate Risk Assessment
Drawing guidance from the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework, Nordson evaluates physical and transition risks, as well as opportunities, related to climate change. This risk analysis is formally integrated into the enterprise risk management (ERM) process led by Nordson’s internal audit department, and the overall ERM findings are reported to the company’s executive leadership and Board of Directors.
Protecting Biodiversity
Nordson is mindful of the ecological systems in which we operate. We will evaluate whether any planned new construction or significant expansion is in an area of recognized high biodiversity. If it is, the project will be closely scrutinized for environmental impact, local environmental stakeholders will be engaged, and we will not proceed with any new construction or expansion where there would be a detrimental impact to an area of recognized high biodiversity.
This policy has been reviewed and approved by Nordson’s senior leadership. Nordson’s centralized environmental, social and governance (ESG) team includes leaders from Environment, Health and Safety (EHS), Human Resources, the Nordson Corporation Foundation, Legal and Compliance, Corporate Communications, Investor Relations and Supply Chain. Nordson’s Chief Financial Officer is the executive sponsor of the centralized ESG team.
