What is a syringe adapter?

A pneumatic syringe dispensing system consists of a filled syringe barrel with an internal installed piston and a dispense tip (see Figure 1). The top of the syringe barrel is connected to the output of a fluid dispenser using a syringe adapter or syringe barrel adapter.

How to choose a dispense tip for syringe dispensing

In a syringe-based fluid dispensing system, a pneumatically controlled plunger, or piston, pushes the fluid down through the dispensing tip to deposit a desired volume at a specified rate.

FAQ - Complete-Syringe-Dispensing-System

Figure 1: A complete syringe dispensing system consists of a fluid dispenser, a filled syringe barrel with piston, a syringe barrel adapter, and a dispense tip.

The syringe barrel adapter connects the dispenser output to the top of the syringe barrel (see Figure 2). It consists of:

  • The adapter tab (black) – connects to the dispenser output to feed the dispensing system
  • The adapter head (blue) – securely attaches the syringe barrel adapter to the top of the syringe barrel
  • The barrel seal (black) – fits into the top of the syringe barrel; an O-ring ensures an air-tight seal
