The HDLV Dense-Phase Technology


Nordson Encore HD spray systems  with Encore® HD pumps independently control powder and air volumes to deliver a soft spray pattern that provides unmatched application efficiency. The exceptional durability of the system and stability of powder output result in reliable, consistent coating uniformity over time with no need for periodic settings adjustments and maintenance.

Unique to Nordson, dense phase technology offers patented HDLV® (High Density, Low Velocity) Encore HD pumps, which deliver a high concentration of powder to the spray gun with only a fraction of the air required by conventional, ejector-pump systems. This spray pattern air is added separately, straight to the spray gun. The separation of powder and air allows powder coaters to fine-tune the powder output for the required production rate and customize spray velocity and pattern size for the best application results.

Greater control, bigger savings


Conventional ejector systems demand greater volumes of air to achieve higher powder output. Therefore, the tasks of optimizing application efficiency and spray aerodynamics become secondary to the necessity of delivering the required powder volume. This often results in excessive spray velocity and is detrimental to powder application efficiency. In addition, a high powder stream velocity is the main cause of excessive wear on internal spray system components which leads to frequent maintenance downtime and high operating costs. Another concern is color change which is complicated by impact fusion s caused by the excessive powder/air velocity inside the hoses and nozzles.

In a conventional, ejector-pump spray system, wear of venturis over time influences powder output. The effect of wearing venturis can be seen in the chart below. To compensate for anticipated wear and powder output degradation, operators must balance between excessive applied coating cost and compromised quality.

Soft, gentle powder application


Encore HD pumps deliver unmatched stability for thousands of hours with no need for adjustment or part replacements. This is achieved because Encore HD pumps have no internal components whose wear-life-cycle can affect powder output. Tight control of the applied coating thickness is the main source of significant powder coatings savings.

The low-velocity powder delivery of the Nordson dense-phase systems not only maximizes the application efficiency but also reduces wear and simplifies color change. The Encore HD pumps have an integrated purge feature to enable fast, high-quality color change.

The soft, gentle powder application of the Encore HD systems is also highly beneficial for the effective coating of difficult product shapes and recesses. By eliminating undesirable air turbulence in the coating deposition area allows operators to spend less time on challenging areas and increase overall productivity.
