Signage

Signage

Professional signage at Nordson locations worldwide helps to identify our facilities, while directing employee, visitor and supplier traffic.

The proper placement, lighting and maintenance of signs communicate our brand and leave a lasting impression on employees, customers and other visitors, as well as the communities where Nordson facilities are located.

The following guidelines introduce the various signage formats. This section does not include a comprehensive review of signage specifications and the many factors that influence the requirements for each situation, such as specific building locations, architecture, landscaping and local building codes. Contact Corporate Communications for assistance in assessing signage needs at your location.

There are five main types of facility signs used by Nordson:
1. Primary / Landscape Facility Signs
2. Directional Signs
3. Small Miscellaneous Informational Signs
4. On-Building Signs
5. Interior Signs

1. Primary / Landscape Facility Signs
Primary identification signs are used at each facility to identify the main entrance of the company or the main entrance of a primary building. Often these are double-faced lawn signs that are visible from both sides. They also can be one-sided signs that are mounted to the building facade in situations where lawn space is not available. Illuminate primary facility signs with internal or exterior lighting as determined by site requirements. If space does not permit the use of a primary/landscape sign, an on-building sign may be more appropriate (described later in these guidelines).

The following illustrations depict the style for typical primary/landscape signs:

  • Typical dimensions of the primary /landscape signs illustrated here are 5' width x 4' height x 10" depth.
  • The top 3/4 of the sign should be divided from the bottom 1/4 by a white stripe.
  • The top 3/4 should be used for the Nordson logo or approved sub-brand logo. It should be centered on the sign with the appropriate area of isolation (see Logo section for area of isolation).
  • The bottom 1/4 may be used for address information. The address should appear in Source Sans Pro. Other information may be listed in lieu of the address that identifies the building, such as Spray Test Lab, or Technology Center for example. In the case where a street address or other text is not required or appropriate, it may be eliminated.
  • Signs are constructed of anodized aluminum and are painted dark brown for the base color.
  • The Nordson logo or approved sub-brand logos address text elements and white stripe are cut from adhesive-backed white vinyl.
  • Acceptable base color and logo/text combinations are as follows:

Base Color Logo/Text/Stripe
 Dark Brown (preferred)  White
 Nordson Blue (secondary option)  White
Gray or Silver (secondary option) Black or Nordson Blue

  • The signs are typically mounted on 5-inch diameter steel pipes set in concrete.
  • A sign should never have more than one logo. In the case where multiple approved sub-branded businesses occupy the same facility, the Nordson logo should be used as default. Observe the area of isolation around the logo.

2. Directional Signs

Directional signs are used to direct visitors to various locations within a building or campus. The following illustrations depict the style for typical directional signs:

General guidelines for creating directional signs are as follows:

  • Typical dimensions of the directional signs illustrated here are 2'6" width x 6' height x 6" depth.
  • First, divide the sign into 1/3 on the top and 2/3 on the bottom with a white stripe.
  • The top 1/3 is used for the logo and (if required) sub-brand names in text.
  • The logo should be sized to maintain the area of isolation above and below as outlined in the logo section of these guidelines.
  • The entire logo should be centered horizontally in the space.
  • If multiple sub-branded businesses are to be identified, they should appear in Source Sans Pro text centered below logo and above the dividing stripe. Multiple logos should not appear on the same sign.
  • No more than three sub-brand text names are recommended. If more than three names are required, Nordson logo should be used alone.
  • Directional text is Source Sans Pro, appears below the stripe and is left aligned.
  • Directional text and sub-brand text are same point size.
  • Signs are constructed of anodized aluminum and are painted dark brown for the base color.
  • The Nordson logo or approved sub-brand logos and text elements and white stripe are cut from adhesive-backed white vinyl.
  • Acceptable base color and logo/text combinations are as follows:

Base Color Logo/Text/Stripe
 Dark Brown (preferred)  White
 Nordson Blue (secondary option)  White
Gray or Silver (secondary option) Black or Nordson Blue

3. Small Miscellaneous Informational Signs
Small or miscellaneous signs generally should be constructed in the style illustrated below. General rules for the Nordson logo should be followed, and text should be in Source Sans Pro.

4. On-Building Signs
On-building signage is optional. Many Nordson buildings have no signs physically on the building -- only primary/landscape and directional signs.

Buildings vary tremendously in design, color and architecture. For these reasons, it is difficult to provide detailed specifications for signs that appear on buildings -- each case is different. In general, however, the following guidelines should be considered:

  • For lighter colored buildings, the Nordson logo or approved sub-brand logo should appear in Nordson Blue or alternately black.
  • For darker colored buildings, the Nordson logo or approved sub-brand logo should appear in white.
  • Neither placement nor size of the logo is fixed. Placement and size should be dictated by common sense, good taste and local regulations. The logo should be integrated with the building and not overwhelm it.
  • A sign should never have more than one logo. In the case where multiple approved sub-branded businesses occupy the same facility, the Nordson logo should be used as default. Observe the area of isolation around the logo.

Multiple logos should never appear in close proximity to each other on the same building.

5. Interior Signs
For entrance areas, the Nordson logo or approved sub-brand logo should be the dominant visual element. The logo may be made from a variety of materials. The same general rules as used for on-building signage should apply.

Approved sub-brand logos may be used in a dedicated space within a building.

Example: a wing dedicated to Nordson TEST & INSPECTION employees and production may use the Nordson TEST & INSPECTION logo on signage leading to, from and within that area

Example: doors leading to a Nordson ELECTRONICS SOLUTIONS area may use the Nordson ELECTRONICS SOLUTIONS logo

The use of sub-brand logos within a building is optional and should be done at the discretion of local management. The Nordson master brand alone is always an acceptable identifier.
