What is a Dispensing Tip?

A dispensing tip is a narrow metal or plastic tip used in precision dispensing systems to make consistent deposits of fluid used in assembly processes. Dispensing tips, also called dispense tips or dispensing needles, most commonly attach to the end of a syringe barrel reservoir (see Figure 1). [Note: dispensing tips are also used with automated dispensing or valve systems like the Nordson EFD xQR41 valves.]

General-purpose dispensing tips consist of a plastic hub attached to a metal cannula sized to produce the desired fluid deposit (see Figure 2).

As the name implies, these tips are a good starting point for most production applications. That said, certain fluids have properties that can degrade dispensing performance. They include:

  • Thin fluids
  • Thick pastes
  • Cyanoacrylates

If your manufacturing process uses one of these types of fluids, you need to use a specialty dispensing tip designed to address the issues the fluid presents. Visit the links above to discover the optimal tip to choose for each type of fluid.
