Community Investment

Giving back to our communities has been integral to Nordson Corporation since our founding. We are dedicated to making a positive difference in the communities in which we work through philanthropy, scholarships and employee volunteerism.

Nordson Corporation Foundation

Our founders, Eric and Evan Nord, instituted a commitment to positive community impact that remains core to our philosophy as a company today. As written into our articles of incorporation, Nordson is committed to contributing approximately 5 percent of U.S. pre-tax profits to support charitable endeavors.  The Nordson Corporation Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life in our communities by improving educational outcomes that enable individuals to become self-sufficient, active participants in the community.

One of the most significant ways we give back is by providing grants to nonprofits in communities where we operate, focusing on education. Other giving categories include human welfare, civic affairs and arts and culture. Grants in the U.S. are made in communities where we have facilities that employ approximately 100 people. In recent years, we extended our reach internationally with giving programs in nine international locations.

To effectively manage our community impact, we leverage Community Affairs Committees comprised of Nordson employees in seven countries, including committees in 10 U.S. states. These committees act as stewards of our Corporate and Foundation funds and make recommendations to the Foundation Board to support local community programs based upon the strategic focus of the Foundation and the needs of the local community.

Nordson BuildsOur most recent philanthropic innovation is our Nordson BUILDS Scholarship Program, where we offer scholarships to U.S. students residing or attending college near a Nordson facility who are pursuing majors in engineering-related STEM disciplines, business or manufacturing. Our three scholarship categories are Career & Technical, University Scholars and Creating Equity in Industry. These scholarships support our mission and strategic vision to build a skilled and educated workforce in the manufacturing industry.

Employee Volunteer Program & Matching Gifts

Established in 1993, Nordson’s Time ‘n Talent Employee Volunteer Program encourages employees to be engaged corporate citizens through acts of service. Employee leadership committees organize volunteer projects and recruit coworkers, retirees, friends and family members to join. Active programs in California, Colorado, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Wisconsin allow hundreds of employees to partner with local organizations to better their communities. We promote volunteering for employees, retirees and their families.

Through our Dollars for Doers program, Nordson supports employees who volunteer 40 hours within a year by making a $500 grant to the organization they volunteer with. Our Matching Gifts program matches dollar for dollar any employee gifts of $25 or more, up to $10,000 per calendar year to verified non-profit organizations. Through our Time to Give Campaign, employees and retirees can also make donations to the Nordson Corporation Foundation or to United Way or a designated organization and receive a one-to-one match for their chosen organization.
