Restricted Substances Program
Nordson Corporation Restricted Substances Policy
Nordson strives for excellence in the design and manufacture of our products and services and to that end we work diligently to deliver products to our customers that meet strict global product content requirements. The Nordson Restricted Substance List (NRSL) is a key component of this initiative as it identifies chemical substances that are restricted in all Nordson products.
The NRSL identifies chemical substances that are restricted due to global regulation and legislation, non-governmental Organizations (NGO) concern, safety and environmental risk or in consideration of possible future regulation. Nordson implements the NRSL through supplier communication and training, product design, factory audits and material testing. We require our suppliers and other supply chain partners to integrate the NRSL into their respective management processes in order to produce compliant products. Verification of compliance to the NRSL will be based on inspection and test of materials, auditing of manufacturing processes and supplier certifications.
The Nordson Restricted Substance List currently includes substances listed in Directive 2011/65/EU on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment, a.k.a. RoHS; Regulation EC 1907/2007 on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (a.k.a. REACH) specifically the substances of very high concern (SVHC) and proposed SVHC; and the International Electrotechnical Commission standard, IEC62474 materials. See reference links below.
Nordson Corporation Restricted Substances Declaration Form
The Nordson Restricted Substance Declaration Form (NRSD) was developed to support collection of supplier declarations regarding restricted substance content for the parts supplied to Nordson Corporation. The form is a smart form which builds upon data stored in Nordson’s ERP system for a particular supplier and their supplied parts. It allows suppliers to provide full material declaration, and/or to indicate compliance per individual regulation requirements.
Nordson has partnered with Foresite Compliance Cloud using their Global Environmental Management System (GEMS) Software to manage restricted substance survey campaigns. Using this software, Nordson Suppliers will be contacted by email from firstname.lastname@example.org. In the email request, suppliers will be asked to complete the supplier specific NRSD, which will be pre-populated with supplier contact and part(s) information. Suppliers will also be directed to logon to the GEMS website, and to upload their completed NRSD. Links to training and work instructions for these processes are included below.
Note: Nordson conducts a separate survey for the United States Security Exchange Commission’s Conflict Mineral Rule materials using the Conflict Free Sourcing initiative Conflict Mineral Reporting Template.
Our suppliers are key to our restricted substance compliance and continued success. Nordson Corporation requires suppliers to:
- Assist Nordson with design of restricted substance compliant products
- Establish restricted substances compliance assurance procedures throughout your company
- Design products using only NRSL compliant parts, materials, and processes
- Create and monitor a NRSL compliant supply chain
- Create a chain of objective evidence verifying product conformity
- Manufacture parts and products using NRSL conforming processes
- Measure and verify the effectiveness of your restricted substances controls
- Provide material declarations for all products delivered to Nordson
