Green Policy

We operate our company and workplace in a way that reflects this commitment by:

Designing and producing products that enable our customers to do more with less

1. House sister companies in our Carlsbad facility (YESTech, March),  which combines resources and use less
2. Try to be paperless
   1. Encourage double-sided printing
   2. Eliminate hard copy printouts
3. Reduce and reuse packaging material
   1. Use recyclable materials
   2. Use biodegradable materials
4. Implement LEAN processes to eliminate waste

1. Reduce power usage
   1. Turn off computers, monitors, lights, and other power-using products when not in use
   2. Use programmable thermostats to regulate climate during off-hours
   3. Use Energy Star devices
   4. Use LED Exit signs
   5. Replace lights with more efficient ones
      1. Re-lamp buildings from 60-Watt, four-lamp fixtures to 32-Watt, two-lamp fixtures
      2. Replace high-intensity sodium bulbs in warehouse areas with 6-lamp, 32-Watt fixtures
   6. Power on demand for air compressors
2. Use water resources wisely:
   1. Recognition of clean wastewater by local authorities [
   2. Use recycled water for outdoor watering
   3. Use water-efficient plumbing.
3. Encourage employees to choose alternate forms of transport to work

   2. Telecommute
   3. Bicycles/Walking
   4. Public transportation

1. Use reusable crates for parts (kanban)
2. Pack with dissolvable packing material, which also meets the International Standard
3. Properly dispose of hazardous waste
4. Recycle used alcohol and acetone
5. Dispose of adhesives, oils and other chemicals in an environmentally responsible manner
6. Recycle chemically contaminated wipes for use in concrete manufacture
7. Follow programs for recycling
   1. Paper and cardboard
   2. Make efforts to email instead of fax
   3. Electronic waste (i.e. PCBs, wires, computers, monitors, electronic components)
   4. Metal (i.e. steel, aluminum, copper, milling scrap)
   5. Food and beverage containers (i.e. bottles, cans)
8. Purchase refurbished toner cartridges instead of new cartridges

1. Awareness begins with education.  Education begins with the communication of our green philosophy and initiatives to our employees, whose awareness will extend to their homes and local communities.   
2. We plan to reward employees for ‘Green Deeds,’ which are ideas to make the company more green.
3. We will educate and involve our employees:
   1. Send regular email communications about new green initiatives available for participation.
   2. Post signs in our buildings with educational information relevant to the location.
   3. Keep our Green Committee forums open to anyone who would like to help
   4. Report updates and progress at company meetings
   5. Lead by example

• Monitor clean air

2009 Accomplishments

• Established a monthly employee Green Committee
• Created and communicated the Asymtek Green Policy
• Joined Climate Savers as an "Affiliate Member“ under the Computer and Server Buyers plan
• Provided recycle bins throughout the facility to collect metal, electronic waste, paper, cardboard, glass and plastics
• Changed water cups from plastic to recyclable paper
• Re-lamped outside lights from 180w to 92w
• Re-lamped inside lights from 32w to 25w
• Installed motion sensors in the Fab Shop and Tradeshow warehouse
• We have reduced our 2008 vs. 2009 kWh/day usage by 11.2%!
• Developed the Fids-on-the-Fly™ option which is up to 5.5X faster than the traditional stop-and-capture mode for locating fiducials. Reducing time spent
• performing this essential, non-dispense routine can increase UPH as much as 35 percent.
• Shipping materials:
• Changed to corrugated cardboard boxes which is100% recycled content
• Changed from packing peanuts to 100% recycled packaging paper
• Changed to corrugated plastic that is reusable
• Bubble wrap was eliminated---Inflatable air packs used for consolidated shipments
• Using foam that has 70% recycled content
• Changed all labels to stamps
• All leased copiers, printers, faxes, scanners, etc have been replaced with Energy Star (*Version 1.1) rated equipment. (*Version 1.1 equipment is 14%)
• More energy efficient than current Energy Star Version 1.0 rated models.)
• Participated in the Surfrider Foundation Beach Cleanup
• Participated in the 25th Annual California Coastal Cleanup Day
• Started monthly employee newsletter to suggest ideas on recycling and conservation
