United Graphics’ most recent investment to optimize cost and quality is a Nordson® Corporation (Nasdaq: NDSN) spine and side glue system to enhance the production efficiency of the Acoro Perfect Binder.
United Graphics upgraded the reactive polyurethane (PUR) spine glue capability of the Muller Martini Acoro with a Nordson EP 48 applicator head and VersaDrum® adhesive melter. This closed application system delivers both higher bond quality and lower production and material costs than open wheel systems. The Nordson EP 48 system protects PUR from contamination and moisture in the plant so the physical integrity of the adhesive is maintained for the actual spine gluing application. Additionally, the closed system minimizes both time and adhesive lost by open application systems during start-up, shutdown and changeovers.
The Nordson spine glue system ties into the Muller Martini Acoro binder controls, as does the newly installed Nordson side glue system comprised of EP 11 adhesive guns and a ProBlue® 10 melter. This capability to control all aspects of make-ready and production maximizes the automation of the binder so helps maximize the production efficiency of the operation.
