POSITION SUMMARY

A Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting, researching, planning, and designing mechanical, pneumatic and electromechanical products and systems for the medical device industry. He/She coordinates the activities involved in the fabrication, operation, application, installation, and support of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the research and analysis of data such as design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  • Design products or systems that include machines, and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, pneumatic, or heat transfer systems. Some products integrate such items with instruments, controls, robots, and customer machines.
  • Assist with fabrication of product test equipment, and development of methods and procedures used for testing products or systems.
  • Perform fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
  • Research and develop solutions to products requiring revision or update and processes through the Quality Management system.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Education Required:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (BSME preferred) from four-year college or university with three to five years related experience and/or training

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED

Detail-oriented, energetic self-starter with strong communication and organizational skills. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to multi-task and work collaboratively as well as independently in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment. The position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering role. Additional qualifications are as follows:

  • Experience designing and supporting low to medium volume products in a fast paced environment that meet rigid quality requirements
  • Experience in the medical device industry, specifically with class II devices including research and development and manufacturing operations
  • Ability to understand and work with medical device quality processes and statistics
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Detail oriented, dependable and willing to handle multiple priorities with a high degree of flexibility.
  • Successful communication skills, business acumen and assertive decision-making ability
  • Experience with 3D-CAD tools and Rapid Prototyping processes

PREFERRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Working understanding of the principles of the EU Medical Device Directive (93/42/EEC), the FDA GMP, the ISO-13485, and their fundamental requirements
  • Experience with and training on SolidWorks, SolidWorks Simulation and Enterprise PDM
  • Experience designing injection molded parts
  • Experience with elements of light-duty industrial automation controls (PLCs, RLL programming, I/O systems, actuators, sensors, etc.)
