Using the Needle Sensor, you only need to position the needle and set the dispense height once. When you locate the dispensing tip during the initial needle sensor setup, it breaks a light beam generated by a fiber optic LED infrared sensor. When the beam is broken, the needle sensor detects and records the location of the dispensing tip in X, Y and Z.
When you change dispensing tips following the initial setup, the needle sensor records the new needle location and calculates the difference between the new position and the original needle position. The Nordson ASYMTEK dispensing system uses this calculation to correctly position the needle.
The Needle Sensor eliminates manual adjustment time and minimizes operator error. If a needle becomes plugged during a production run, the operator can simply change the needle, run a needle sense, and restart the program. Since the needle sensor automatically compensates for changes in the needle position, the operator does not have to manually locate the needle or adjust the dispensing program. The needle sensor has two self-diagnosing functions that alert the operator in the case that the needle is lost or damaged.
The Needle Sensor is an available option when using the SL-940E or SL-940E systems for conformal coating applications.
