As a leading specialist in adhesive technology worldwide, the Nordson Corporation, which will present its products at this year's Interpack in Building 14, Booth D 15, has felt a special obligation to sustainability for many years. Nordson, a U.S. company with its German headquarters in Ekrath, produces adhesive application systems that are integrated into a wide variety of packaging machines and are considered the industrial standard for many applications in terms of energy efficiency, safety and cleanliness.
One of the products drawing special attention will be the hot glue applicator MiniBlue II available since March 2011 and features a standard insulated cover. The pneumatic gun uses up to 40 percent less energy than conventional units and the insulating cover reduces the surface temperature significantly, which helps increase workplace safety and protects against burns. MiniBlue II won the German Packaging Award in 2010 for machine technology.
A new patented bellows seal concept has doubled the service life of the applicator. Depending on which hot glue is used, the service life is extended to more than 100 million switching cycles. Other significant technical features include the optimised ball and seat modules, which are air-opened and air-closed, and the innovative Saturn® SP solenoid valve with a minimum switching time of about 2 ms (also depends on which hot melt material is used). These characteristics make MiniBlue II guns ideal for "stitching." In this process, short intermittent beads replace longer continuous beads, resulting in adhesive savings of up to 50 percent.
Other products devoted to aspects of sustainability include the automatic ProBlue Fulfill adhesive filling system that saves time and energy with precise and consistent dosing, and LogiComm, the pattern control and product monitoring system. LogiComm regulates and controls the application or volume of adhesive, often more precisely than the machine control unit and accommodates for small batch sizes and complex adhesive patterns.
