In addition to Primarc’s extensive range of electrode lamps, Primarc has developed the electrodeless microwave bulb for use in industries such as fiber optic coating, electronics, compact disc and DVD manufacture, plastic container decorating, liquid finishing, two-piece can manufacture, graphic arts, and general industrial applications.
The standard bulb has a mercury/gas fill, however, as with Primarc electrode lamps, the spectral distribution can be modified by the addition of special metal halides.
Metal halide lamps are mercury vapor lamps with metal halide additives, which create specific wavelengths of ultraviolet radiation to precision-match the photo-initiator being cured. The addition of metal halides creates a shift in the spectral output of a standard lamp, producing longer wavelengths. These longer wavelengths enable a greater depth of cure to be achieved, making them particularly useful in the curing of pigmented and thicker coatings.
Primarc electrodeless microwave bulbs are manufactured from high-clarity, vitreous silica, normally referred to as quartz. Quartz has the property of high-transparency to ultraviolet light, particularly at the shortwave end of the spectrum where over 90% of the UV energy generated is transmitted through the quartz.
The Primarc Quality Standard ensures that each lamp is not only manufactured to the most stringent of specifications, but also that lamp performance is consistent each time, every time.
Established in 1970, Primarc UV Technology is one of the world’s longest serving manufacturers of UV curing lamps. During this time, our technical expertise, manufacturing processes and repeatability of lamp performance have reached a standard that has become the benchmark across the globe.
Primarc has also played a leading role in UV lamp development. We are dedicated to providing design and manufacturing support to end-users and original equipment manufacturers worldwide. Our R&D department works constantly with a range of companies to develop new applications for UV curing and improve existing products.

The electrodeless bulb is operated by high frequency microwave energy emitted from a device known as a magnetron, which is located behind the reflector assembly. Microwave energy excites the bulb, enabling a plasma to be generated with characteristic wavelengths determined by the gas fill.
Primarc electrodeless microwave bulbs are available in two sizes, 6” and 10”, varying in power from 300 WPI to 600 WPI. The following matrix should help lamp identification for ordering.
