DULUTH, Georgia - April 15, 2008 - At INDEX 08, the world’s leading nonwovens exhibit, Nordson Corporation (Nasdaq – NDSN) today unveiled a new Universal™ Speed-Coat® applicator, designed to help manufacturers achieve greater pattern precision in high-speed intermittent applications. The new applicator, based on Nordson’s proven Speed-Coat control technology, helps enhance pattern performance with greater thermal uniformity and improved cutoff of leading and trailing edges, while offering easy serviceability and low cost of ownership.
“The new Universal Speed-Coat applicator provides manufacturers with greater flexibility and cost savings by allowing them to accommodate demanding high-speed intermittent spray processes,” said Alan Ramspeck, product line manager. “The single Universal nozzle interface provides compatibility with numerous spraying and coating technologies, offers excellent pattern consistency and process stability, and can help substantially reduce adhesive waste.”
The Speed-Coat applicator’s built-in module improves thermal uniformity of nozzle temperature and correlation with each application’s setpoint temperature. An integrated process air heater leverages a thin-film flow design to enhance heating efficiency and reduce power consumption. The high-speed, long-life module maximizes intermittent performance with cycle rates up to 9,000 cycles per minute, depending on the application. A retract-on-close feature also produces sharp cutoff of leading and trailing pattern edges, while compatibility with the Nordson OptiStroke™needle stroke detection system further enhances process control.
The applicator’s compact, angled manifold reduces air turbulence common in high-speed operations, improving pattern stability and web-routing options. In addition, quick-change sensors, filters and heaters improve serviceability and minimize production downtime, while common fasteners and parts reduce the need for tools and inventory requirements. Nordson also offers economical factory-quality rebuild services through the ESP™ Equipment Services Program.
In addition to the new intermittent Speed-Coat applicator, Nordson has also introduced a number of enhancements to its popular Universal SureWrap™ nozzles for greater durability and improved ease of use with coated elastic materials. New hard-wear inserts in elastic guiding areas of nozzles alleviate accelerated wear caused by the use abrasive pigmented and talc-coated elastics at high production speeds. Nozzles are also available that offer a new self-cleaning feature for improved performance with coated materials or in dusty environments.
