DAWSONVILLE, Georgia - January 31, 2003 -The Summit II lamination and elastic-attachment processes from Nordson Corporation (Nasdaq - NDSN) provide exceptional control of hot melt adhesive fiber deposition with low add-on rates on nonwovens disposable products.
Summit II lamination process enhances bond strength in backsheet lamination and core stabilization. The process produces a crossing pattern using four radially tangential air jets to oscillate single adhesive fibers, which increases bond strength. Controlled adhesive fiber size, density and pattern width improve uniformity in the cross-web direction. Non-contact dispensing prevents substrate distortion, and bridges and penetrates irregular surfaces for better bond performance. Fiber sizes range from 50 to 100 microns to produce low-density large-fiber patterns, open patterns, or highly dense fine-fiber patterns.
Summit II process for elastic attachment improves creep resistance on elastic strands used for elasticized legs, leg cuffs and waistbands on baby diapers, training pants and adult incontinence products. The process oscillates a dedicated adhesive fiber, wrapping it around the elastic strand. Discrete bond points improve heat retention and open time, while contributing to product-feature elasticity. Nozzles are compatible with two- and three-way pneumatically actuated modules (metering) and high-speed electrically actuated Nordson E-400 modules.
Both processes allow hardware changeover with other Nordson applicator technologies, adding manufacturing flexibility. Nozzles are available to meet specific laminating coverage and elastic configuration requirements.
