DAWSONVILLE, Georgia - January 16, 2002 - Nordson Corporation (Nasdaq-NDSN) will be demonstrating several spray application technologies, including Summit™ and Universal Slice™ applicators and the ES-400 electric applicator and driver, at the Index 2002 Nonwovens Exhibition, Booth 2161.
All applicators will be shown using new Nordson Universal™ modules. Universal modules enable Nordson spray applicators to be adapted to a single module design for quick and easy changeover. Universal modules help eliminate the need for customers to stock a different part number for each spray application.
Summit applicators for lamination deliver precise control of adhesive pattern width, fiber size and density for increased bond strength and pattern flexibility. Uniform, uninterrupted pattern coverage is achieved, with coverage width being easily adjusted through the use of partial width dies.
When used for elastic attachment, Summit applicators deliver exceptionally low add-on rates with minimum overspray. A single spiraling stream of adhesive wraps around the elastic strand and coats it uniformly, resulting in improved creep resistance. A dedicated application for each strand or strip reduces adhesive use.
The ES-400 electric applicator and driver is ideal for high-speed applications. Capable of delivering both spray and bead patterns, ES-400 applicators accurately dispense adhesive at speeds up to 3,600 cycles per minute with durations of less than 1 millisecond.
ES-400 applicators accommodate viscosity changes and deliver superior repeatability. As air is not required for operation, operating costs are lower than traditional pneumatic applicators.
The ES-400 driver is equipped with a PC interface allowing users to easily program patterns by entering application requirements directly from their computer to the driver.
Also being demonstrated is the Universal Slice applicator, which delivers precise metered adhesive output and has the flexibility to produce a wide variety of hot melt adhesive patterns and widths. Die slices may be added or removed to provide variable widths without replacing the entire assembly, minimizing changeover time, spare part requirements and recapitalization costs.
In addition, Alan Ramspeck, Nordson product line manager, will be presenting a paper entitled, Advancements in Non-Contact Adhesive Application. Superior Control of Adhesive Fiber Improves Dispensing Precision and Bond Strength and Reduces Adhesive Use. The paper will analyze and compare the dispensation of a dedicated adhesive fiber in a crossing pattern versus a non-crossing pattern, and explore the benefits this process may bring to manufacturers of nonwovens and disposable products.
