DULUTH, Georgia - November 13, 2000 - New innovative Summit applicators from Nordson Corporation (Nasdaq - NDSN) precisely apply adhesive fibers for elastic attachment and laminating applications in the manufacture of nonwovens disposable products. Innovative Summit applicators use four radially tangential air jets to oscillate a single fiber, shaping and applying the adhesive pattern in a way that optimizes bonding performance.
Summit applicators for elastic attachment applications deliver exceptionally low add-on rates and edge control of ± 1 millimeter without overspray. A single oscillating stream of adhesive wraps around the elastic strand and coats it uniformly, resulting in improved creep resistance. A dedicated application for each strand or strip reduces adhesive usage. Summit applicators for laminating applications deliver precise control of adhesive pattern width, fiber size and density for increased bond strength and pattern flexibility. Applicators deliver add-on weights as low as <1 gram per square meter at 300 meters per minute and edge control of ±2 millimeters without overspray. Applicators apply fiber sizes ranging from 50 to 100 microns without polyethylene distortion and produce highly dense patterns for maximum bond strength, open patterns when absorbency is important or fine fiber patterns to eliminate distortion on heat-sensitive substrates.
Summit applicators, regardless of application, enable easy changeover from Controlled Fiberization™ and other Nordson applicators. The modular design provides pattern flexibility and ease of operation and maintenance for reduced downtime, while quick-disconnect electrical plugs provide quick installation and servicing.
