Nordson continues to improve many of the most commonly used nozzles for the can and container industry. The enhancements provide increased reliability, better performance and more value, as the nozzles are made to specifications similar to the actual use conditions. The tighter nozzle specifications provide less piece-to-piece variance and more consistency. Further, container nozzles are available in the taper-tip adapter, which makes them easier to clean and keeps the nozzles cleaner longer. The pattern width tolerance is also tighter than previous versions.
When compared to general finishing nozzles, Nordson’s container nozzles are superior for several reasons:
Test conditions more closely simulate the actual container process. The pattern width test for Nordson container nozzles uses a waterborne can lacquer spraying at 800 psi, at three inches from the substrate.
Closer tolerances for flow and fan pattern. All Nordson container nozzles will have a ±2% flow rate tolerance. They also feature a ±7.5% pattern width tolerance, an improvement over the 10% tolerance previously achieved.
Reduction of the cavity volume in dome T-plate style adapters. The adapters used for new flange nozzles are a restrictor-style. This decreases the nozzle cavity by more than 60% when preatomization devices are not used, resulting in significantly less spitting.
Testing without a preatomization device. A survey of customers indicated that the majority do not use T-plates or restrictors.
Taper-tip adapter provides easy maintenance. The taper-tip adapter is easier to clean and stays clean for a longer period of time. There are no ears for the coating to build on.
