Nordson has more than 15 years’ experience in systems that apply exterior coatings and provide UV curing to plastic containers. Our systems help manufacturers increase productivity and produce a better quality end product with a longer shelf life.
Nordson Anti-Static Spray systems apply a conductive film on the outside of plastic containers. A typical system utilizes Nordson MEG®, A20A or A7A spray guns, proprietary Nordson nozzles, and an airless spray pumping system for precise material application. The conductive film allows any electric charge present on the plastic to bleed off, reducing dust and fiber build-up on the outside of the container.
With the use of hot fills/aseptic packs becoming more common in plastic containers as well as fillers blow-molding pre-forms, topical anti-stats can be applied after the filling and washing operations have been completed.
Nordson spray systems can also be used to apply barrier coatings to plastic products. These coatings provide a carbon dioxide and/or oxygen barrier, enhancing shelf life. A topical barrier also allows manufacturers to use virgin plastic pre-forms instead of multi-layer versions. Less expensive methods for recycling the plastics back into containers may also be implemented.
